Being one of the largest islands in the world, Borneo (Kalimantan), is rich with many fascinating and endemic wildlife.
As most of the land is filled with rainforest, the diversity of flora and fauna is amazing. From the lovely Orangutans, Proboscis Monkeys, Gibbons and other species of monkeys. Here, you can also see Argus Pheasants, Snakes (including the three species of flying snakes), Sun Bears, and more than 600 species of birds including the Hornbills which plays an important role in the Dayak mythology. Borneo also has lots of exclusive plants that you can not find anywhere else. The black orchids, carnivorous pitcher plants, the 70-meter trees that known as the hardest wood in the rainforest (Iron Wood), and many more.
Have a visit to Tanjung Puting National Park, where you can see all flora and fauna of the island. Here, you can experience lots of new things. From meeting Orangutans, until cruising the river using Klotok, the traditional boat of Borneo. It is common for tourist to stay over at Klotok for several days during the trip. Waken up by the sound of the jungle and sleep under the stars.
Besides flora and fauna, Borneo is famous for the Dayak tribe. This indigenous tribe of Borneo has unique culture and customs compared to Indonesian who you usually see in cities. It is suggested for you to attend the Dayak festival that is held annually.
