How to Get Raja Ampat from Bali or Jakarta

There is no direct flight from Bali or Jakarta to Raja Ampat Islands. You must take a plane trip to Domine Eduard Osok Airport in Sorong. This airport is the busiest and biggest one in Papua. Then continue your trip to Waisai Island by ferry ship.

From Jakarta to Sorong

If you are from Jakarta, you can take a flight with one stopover using airlines like Sriwijaya Air, Lion Air, and Citilink. The plane departs from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, with one stopover at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

The average duration of the trip depends on the routes. Some offer quick, 6 to 7-hour flights, while others take around 14 hours. Make sure to check the details of each available ticket as you browse.

From Bali to Sorong

If you are from Bali, you can take a direct flight using airlines like Lion Air and Batik Air. For a cheaper option, you can take a flight with one stopover at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

The plane departs from Ngurah Rai International Airport. A direct flight usually takes around 6 hours. However, there are also flights with stopovers that last around 15 hours.

Ferry Trip from Sorong to Raja Ampat

Once you arrive in Sorong, you can take a ferry trip to Waisai, the capital of Raja Ampat. Waisai is located in Waigeo, one of the major islands that make up Raja Ampat.

A trip with a fast ferry lasts around two hours. The ferry embarks from Sorong Ferry Harbor at 09:00 AM and arrives in Waisai at 11:00 AM (unless there are changes, such as because of the weather). We recommend you choose an early flight to arrive in Sorong at around 06:00 or 06:30 AM, a perfect time to catch a ferry.

Several seaside resorts in Waigeo have their own boats. If you book one of these resorts, they will pick you up with their boats once you arrive in Waisai. However, if the resort you book is located on other islands besides Waigeo, they will send their own boat to pick you up from Sorong.
