For those who looking for a tranquil island gateway far from the crowds, Gili Nanggu is the place to be. Gili Nanggu is one of the small beautiful islands in the southwest of Lombok. This beautiful island is dominated by white sand beach, crystal clear water and incredible underwater life.

An Absolute Tropical Paradise

It takes a short boat ride from the mainland of Lombok to get to Gili Nanggu, about 15 – 20 minutes using a local boat starting from West Sekotong. If you’re staying in Lombok, a day trip to Gili Nanggu is very doable. Besides Gili Nanggu, you can also visit the other Gilis such as Gili Kedis and Gili Sudak. However, with its pristine white sand beaches and incredible marine life all around the island, it is worth staying a few days.

Gili Nanggu is pretty much for relaxing the serene nature surrounding in a quiet island. Here are several fun things you can do in Gili Nanggu:

• Snorkeling

Snorkeling in Gili Nanggu offers easy access just off the beach, shallow and current-free water that is a safe place to snorkel even for beginners. The clear water gives a good underwater visibility, perfect for photos or videos, with colorful tropical fishes and coral reefs. You will be amazed by huge school fish swim around you and once you find the reef formations, you will see a combination of hard and soft corals.

• Island Hopping

Gili Nanggu is close to other similar islands, such as Gili Kedis and Gili Sudak. Both islands are smaller than Gili Nanggu, but the underwater life are equally beautiful. A day trip to explore the three islands can be arranged with starting point from Lombok.

There is no snorkeling equipment rental available on the island. You can either rent it from West Sekotong or bring your own gear to enjoy the underwater.

Tips to Visit Gili Nanggu

• When visiting Gili Nanggu be sure to bring your own snorkeling gear as there is no place to rent the equipment around the island
• DO NOT touch or step on coral when snorkeling which will not only harming the coral but also yourself
• Leave no trace. Remember to always bring your reusable water bottle and always bring your trash back to the main land.
• Don’t Feed The Fishes. While it’s an amazing experience to see many fishes so close when you feed them, it is actually not a recommended activity as the marine species can provide their own food. Feed feeding promotes a behavior called conditioning, where the animal learns to associate humans with food.
