ORANGUTAN HOUSEBOAT TOUR

Upon arrival in Pangkalan Bun, drive to Kumai harbor about 20 – 30 minutes away then board our houseboat called klotok. On the way there, you will pass the Dayak Long House (Betang House) if you drive via Pasir Panjang Village. The Betang House is the creation of the Dayak Tribe that lived in Kalimantan inland with a group concept of life. At that time, Dayak tribes stay inland of Kalimantan and pass their life in groups. They live together in a house called ‘Rumah Betang’ (Betang traditional house). Betang has its unique points. It has an elongated shape and there is only a staircase to enter the Longhouse. Betang has a built-in high position from the ground to avoid the trouble things, including avoiding enemies that can come suddenly, wild animals, or floods that sometimes hit the Longhouse.

RIVER CRUISE

The river cruise journey starts with boating with a traditional klotok. Klotok is a wooden river houseboat size 2,25 m x 15 m for 5 people and the big one size 3,5 x 19 meters for 8 – 10 people. In this klotok houseboat, we have a western toilet and shower, mosquito nets, mattress, pillows, and kitchen. During the boat trip, you will be accompanied by an experienced jungle guide, cook, captain, and boat assistant.

Along with the boating from Kumai Bay, you might see Dolphin before entering the fork of Sekonyer River. Continue the journey upriver along the Sekonyer River and pass the Nipah Plam Mangrove tree. There, you might see wild orangutans as well as some water birds or long-tail monkeys.

FEEDING STATION

Camp Leakey and Pondok Tanguy is the place where you can trek and see the orangutan. The jungle is very humid and the trek takes about more or less 20 – 30 minutes away.
