Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park is a must-visit destination for bird enthusiasts. This stunning nature reserve, located in North Sulawesi, offers a diverse range of bird species that are not commonly found elsewhere. Actually, this national park belongs to two provinces. include Gorontalo and North Sulawesi Province. The park has over 300 species of birds recorded, including some rare and endemic species. It is a paradise for bird watchers.
This Protected area covers around 287,115 hectares. The Park is considered a biodiversity hotspot due to its high species richness and endemism levels. Moreover, the park has several endangered species, such as babirusa, anoa, and tarsier. It also has a unique ecosystem, including montane forests, lowland rainforests, and mangrove forests, which provide habitats for a wide range of flora and fauna.
The next feature of the national park is its atmosphere, which feels refreshing and clean. This is because it is located at an elevation of about 50 – 1900 meters above sea level. It is also located in a mountainous area surrounded by narrow valleys and steep hillsides.
Birding Bogani Nani Wartabone
The park’s diverse landscape and ecosystem make it a perfect habitat for many bird species. The Maleo bird (Macrocephalon maleo) is one of them. This endemic bird uses geothermal heat to incubate its eggs in the park’s volcanic soil. With over 250 species of birds residing in the park, visitors will surely witness some of the world’s most unique and exotic bird species. Several endangered species, such as the Javan hawk-eagle and the Javan scops-owl, are spotted here. Birding in Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park is an incredible experience.

Pick up from your hotel in Manado in the morning and drive for around 6 hours with stops en route for lunch and refreshments. Upon arrival in Kotamobagu in the late afternoon in Kotamobagu, check in at 3* hotel. Dinner on personal expenses.
After an early breakfast drive for around 1.5 hours to Bogani Nani NP via Duloduo. Bogani Nani Wartabone is located in the Wallacea zone. Hence, there are many unique characteristics of flora and fauna, as well as the ecosystem in this park. As a protected forest, Bogani Nani Wartabone has rich biological diversity. It is also a habitat for various flora and fauna. Most of them are endemic species of Sulawesi Island. Together with our guide and the forest ranger you will trek in the dense tropical rainforest with various kinds of plants, such as trees (400 species), high plants (241 species), fern plants (120 species), moss (100 species), and orchid (90 species). Rare Endemic plants can be found here also. The National Park is a habitat for several animals, such as mammals (24 species), poultry (125 species), reptiles (11 species), amphibians (2 species), butterflies (38 species), beetle (200 species), and fish (19 species).
In this park, you can find some endemic animals that are protected due to extinction threats. Those are Maleo bird (Macrochepalon maleo), Yaki monkey (Macaca Heckl), Bone bat (Bonea bidens), small kuskus (Phalanger Celebensis), and bear kuskus (Phalanger Urnisus). Maleo bird and Bone bat are this national park’s mascot animal.
