Kalimantan Orangutan Tour & River Safari

Start / End : Jakarta or Bali

Accommodation : Klotok Boat or Riverside Lodge

Kalimantan Orangutan Tours takes you to Tanjung Puting National Park, which is on the southern coast of Central Kalimantan. The park covers an area of around 4,000 square kilometers and has plenty of orangutans, as well as other wildlife such as proboscis monkeys, gibbons, and macaques. The park is accessible by river, and it takes around 2-3 hours to reach the city of Pangkalan Bun.

The tour typically starts with a river safari on the Sekonyer River, where you can witness orangutans swinging from one tree to another, feeding and taking care of their young ones. You can also see other animals, such as crocodiles and birds. The next day, you will visit the national park's feeding stations, where the rangers provide fruits to the orangutans.

KALIMANTAN ORANGUTAN TOUR ITINERARY

Visit Camp Leakey, Pondok Tanguy, River Safari

DAY 01 : PANGKALAN BUN - ORANGUTAN TOUR.

Upon arrival at Pangkalan Bun Airport, our local staff will be waiting to pick you up and take you to Kumai where you will board a traditional Klotok wooden river boat. The boat has a roof that forms the upper deck, giving you a perfect view of the rainforest as you glide by. Your guide's team includes a boatman, a cook, and an expert guide.

During the peaceful afternoon, you will explore the quiet river on the Klotok while observing the monkeys along the riverside. Dinner will be served on the boat, and you'll spend the night on the Klotok boat or eco-lodge. We provide thin mattresses, pillows, fine meals, bottled "mineral" water, mosquito net, and a kitchen. Simple toilets are also available on the boat, in addition to our helpful and familiar guides and boatmen. (Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner).

Overnight: Klotok Boat or Riverside Lodge

DAY 02: ORANGUTAN TOUR - EXPLORATION

After breakfast, you will board the klotok for a two-hour boat ride upriver to Camp Leakey. This is where the older orangutans were reintroduced to the rainforest. En route, we will stop at Pondok Tanguy, which was formerly a rehabilitation center for new ex-captive orangutans.

Once we arrive at Camp Leakey, you will have an opportunity to trek into the rainforest with your expert guide and forestry rangers. Here, you can appreciate the flora and perhaps even spot wild orangutans, gibbons, macaques, and birds. Lunch will be provided on the boat, and in the afternoon, we will visit to the feeding station to see the rehabilitated orangutans being given additional food.

We will then sail back down the river to spend the night on the klotok boat or at the riverside lodge.
