Bromo Ijen Tour from Bali

Located near the island of Bali, East Java has lots of beautiful places to visit. Two of them are Mt. Bromo and Mt. Ijen. People frequently having their Bromo Ijen tour from Bali. It is more convenient as you can cross by ferry from Gilimanuk Port of West Bali to Ketapang Port in East Java for an hour. Even though both volcanoes are famous in East Java, Mt. Bromo and Mt. Ijen has a different point of uniqueness.

Mount Ijen

Mount Ijen is known as its beautiful crater lake. It is about 1 km wide and 175 meters deep. In certain parts in the crater, where the sulfur miners gathered the sulfur, you will see the blue fire or blue flame. The sulfur gas adds a high pressure and temperature. When the sulfur released it will meet the oxygen that creates the blue flame. You might be able to come closer to the blue fame, with a certain condition. First, you have to use your gas mask. Next, whether or not the wind blows in your direction. If it does, the blue fame has a really strong smell so we suggest you to not go near there. After sometimes you will climb up to the rim of the crater and see the beautiful sunrise. Enjoy the fresh air with the sunlight that warms you up. On your way back you will meet many sulfur miners carrying 60-70kgs on their bare shoulders for 2 miles ascending and descending the steep Mt. Ijen slopes.

Bromo Sunrise

Mount Bromo on the other hand, known as a mountain that standing in the middle of the sea of sand. The mountain itself is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, which includes Mount Semeru, Mount Pananjakan, lakes, and rivers. You can enjoy Bromo Sunrise from Mt. Pananjakan. The view is also included Mt. Semeru on the background. Such a beautiful and amazing experience!

  • Picked up at 10 AM from your stay in Bali.
  • Transferred for about 4 hours driving to Gilimanuk port for a ferry crossing to Java (Ketapang Port). Note: The crossing will be around an hour (when the weather is good, Mt. Agung in Bali and Mt. Raung in Java can be seen from the ferry).
  • Arrival in Ketapang Port and directly transfers to your hotel in Banyuwangi.

Accommodation: Ketapang Indah Hotel or similar

  • Rise early, at 1 AM, for the Mt. Ijen (2.400 m) excursion.
  • From the hotel, transferred for an hour to Paltuding (1.850M) area through uphill road and the rain forest.
  • From Paltuding, trekking up for about 2 hours to the crater rim, and another 30-45 minutes trekking down into the crater.
  • Enjoy Ijen Blue Flame and Sunrise from Ijen.
  • Drive back to the hotel for breakfast and freshen up.
  • Start your next trip to Cemoro Lawang area, arrive in the afternoon (if the weather is good, you can enjoy the Bromo view directly from your hotel front yard).

** Please note if you are not interested in the blue flame tour, we can change to the Mt. Ijen sunrise tour that will start at 3.30 AM from your hotel.

  • Morning call at 03:00 AM, by jeep/hardtop to see the sunrise at Mt. Penanjakan.
  • From the viewpoint located on the rim of the Tengger caldera, enjoy the sunrise with its young volcanic view, including Mt. Bromo and the active Mt. Semeru in the background.
  • Proceed to Mt. Bromo crater through the shimmering sea of sand.
  • Climb up the 245 steps of stairs to reach the ridge of Bromo Caldera.
  • Drive back to the hotel for breakfast and freshen up.
  • At 11 AM, continue the trip to Surabaya Airport or train station.
