Tana Toraja is one of the most exotic and mysterious places in Indonesia with its extravagant funeral practice and ancient burial sites. For instance, they still practice death and afterlife ceremonies.
In the Toraja society, the funeral ceremony is the most important and expensive ritual. The Rambu Solo ceremony has a level that refers to the social strata of the deceased. The richer and more powerful a person who dies, the more expensive the funeral service will be.

Tour Guide Toraja
Credible guide included in our Tana Toraja Tour Package. Toraja local tour guides are fluent in English. In addition, feel free to request another language-speaking translator (Russian, Italian, or Spain) for a group tour. Make sure to do give us a note before reserving the tour. Note that non-English Speaking tour guides will be subject to availability and extra charges will be applied.
Upon your arrival at Makassar International Airport, your guide will pick you up from the airport. After meet and greet, you will drive to Hotel for overnight.

If you arrive Makassar Airport before 12:00, we will visit Ramang – Ramang Village. Escape from the hustle and bustle Makassar city, located in Maros regency. Soon when you jump into the traditional canoe and paddling through the Puteh River that surrounded by the Karst Tower or limestone cliffs and Nypa Fruticans, you will feel the cool breeze of the countryside. After half an hour paddling among the beautiful scenery, you will enjoy a soft trekking, visiting Passaung cave, a small cave with some prehistoric drawings inside. Back to the river and paddle again for another 15 minutes to Berua village which is surrounded by the limestone cliffs. The word “Berua“ taken from the Makassarese language means “New“. Another soft trekking around the virgin Berua village and experienced the local life. Lunch will be served at the one of local house. After lunch, paddle out of the village and enjoyed other soft trekking among Karst Tower or limestone Park. Stone forest area is very wide. Then drive to back to Makassar for overnight.
Makassar – Palopo by Wings Air.

Enjoy your breakfast, check out from your hotel and transfer to the airport for flight to Palopo. After arrival to Palopo, we will drive for 2 hours to Toraja trough very scenic Road. Arrive Toraja land and start to visit the fascinating villages of Toraja with the unique Tongkonan Houses which shape like a ship bow and stern. LEMO, grave yard on the cliff. Afternoon visit LONDA, an ancient natural graves and puppets on the balcony representing the dead. KETEKESU, traditional Toraja village.

This morning after breakfast, if the schedule permits, you will have the chance to immerse yourself in the bustling life of the Torajan’s with a visit to their, once a week traditional Buffalo market in Bolu. This market is important to the local society as buffalos and pigs are an essential part of the intricate funeral ceremony. Note: Bolu Market depends on the schedule and is only held twice a week, every Tuesday and Saturday. In case there is no market on the day you visit, we will replace it by a visit to a local market in Rantepao or on the next day Later, visit BATUTUMONGA, mountainous area with fantastic scenery passing through the green paddy field. On the way visit the ROCK graves. Soft trekking passing the village to see the way of life of Toraja people. PALAWA, the oldest village of Toraja with old Tongkonan houses and rice barns surrounded. Then visit BORI, the stone showing the existence of the funeral site of the clan. Afternoon visit NANGGALA, traditional village with Fantastic Tongkonan houses surrounded. MARANTE, the hanging graves. If you want to see local Market, please ask your guide to have a stop before back Hotel.
