A 17 days Sumatra tour. Start from North Sumatra, trekking in the jungle of Bukit Lawang for Orangutan and other wildlife, explore the culture of Batak at Lake Toba, Samosir Island, continue to a challenging trek to experience the daily life of the Mentawai tribe in West Sumatra.

  • Pick up service by our guide team then transfer to your hotel in Medan.
  • Free time at your own leisure after a long flight from your country.

Accommodation Plan: Aryaduta Hotel Medan or similar

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Driving about  3 hours ( 85 km ) through bumpy road plantation area, passing rubber and palm oil plantation.
  • Arrive in Bukit Lawang, check-in at the lodge.
  • After lunch,  continue for the afternoon trek to the jungle to see the orangutan, Thomas Leaf Monkey, Siamang Gibbon, and many others.
  • Back to the lodge for overnight.

Accommodation Plan: Bukit Lawang Eco Lodge Notes : The next day, you will be trekking and overnight for several days into the jungle, so please sort out the stuff you need during trekking and leave the rest at the locked storeroom in the lodge.

  • Breakfast at the lodge
  • Start trekking.  After a short walk, you will enter the national park and pass the old orangutan feeding area which is still highly popular with semi-wild orangutans. Continue your trek through the rainforest going deeper into the jungle while having a bigger chance to see wildlife there. While hiking up and down the hills heading towards the west side of the national park your guide will point out different jungle habitats and plant species and explain about the rainforest and its biodiversity. During trekking please keep your eyes for spotting beautiful creatures you may encounter.
  • Lunch prepare by our guide team in the jungle.
  • In the late afternoon, you will arrive at the charming Jambur Batu River next to a big waterfall where you will stay overnight at your campsite.
  • You can swim, relax and enjoy the afternoon coffee and tea.
  • Our team will prepare your jungle dinner of local Indonesian fresh healthy food over an open campfire.
  • You have the opportunity to play games, sing around the fire or just look at the stars and review the first day of your trek.
  • Stay overnight at a temporary jungle tent or doom tent in the jungle. Tents, air-mattress, pillows, and sleeping bags will make your  sleep comfortable.

  • Start trekking over 6 hours towards the Landak River. You will trek deeper into the jungle to have more chances of encountering wildlife. The terrain is steep, but the views will be spectacular.
  • At noon your guides will prepare a simple jungle lunch on the top of a hill. The fantastic scenery in the national park will be a memorable experience for you.
  • The campsite for the second night will be next to the big Landak River where you will arrive in the late afternoon. There is a big chance to see wild orangutans and black gibbons.
  • Our team will prepare an Indonesian fresh healthy dinner and refreshments while you enjoy the sounds of nocturnal jungle life.

  • Discover the deeper jungle while hiking further upstream along Landak River to Uning, a small pond shaped by nature. If you are lucky you can spot the Sumatran tiger, deer, wild boar and other habitats of the tropical rainforest. While the trek progresses you will become more and more used to building up the camp, preparing a real jungle dinner and working together as a team. The third night you will spend at a campsite on the Landak River.
  • Enjoy the evening at your jungle camp by playing cards or singing around the campfire with your guides.
  • You will spend at least 2 days here for those who really love spotting wildlife.

Note: This place actually the ideal place to spot wildlife. It’s a place where all the animals gathering together. You can spend some more days in “Uning”,  a small pond where animals come to lick essential mineral/nutrients. Mineral licks can be naturally occurring or artificial (such as blocks of salt that ... Many animals regularly visit mineral licks to consume clay, supplementing their diet with nutrients. Accommodation Plan: Tent/Shelter

  • Keep trekking through the jungle, heading for Bohorok River for about 5 hours.
  • In the afternoon you can relax and swim at the campsite. If you are lucky you can observe the Sumatran monitor lizards, tortoises and colorful river butterflies around the campsite.

  • Overnight at Campsite. Being in the jungle at night is a completely contrasting experience; there are different animals, different sounds and of course a sky full of stars.

  • Free time enjoying the jungle. This is the start of a lazy day with waking up late, having breakfast, swimming or just relaxing in the camp.
  • Then it’s time to return to Bukit Lawang for 2.5 hours full of fun! Your “jungle taxi” will take you back by traditional tube-rafting down the Bohorok River – a very special and exciting way to finish your trekking adventure through the Sumatran jungle.
  • Upon arrival in Bukit Lawang Eco Lodge, check-in and pick up your stuff you leave in the lodge.

  • Morning drives to Berastagi with en-route visit local market where locals sell and buy fruits, flowers, and vegetables which are plenty in the vicinity of the town.
  • A stop will be made at Gundaling Hill (view of Mt. Sinabung and Sibayak). visit Lumbini Natural park, a Buddhist temple located at Desa Dolat Rayat, Berastagi in North Sumatra. Taman Alam Lumbini is a replica of “Shwedagon Pagoda” in Yangon, Myanmar. The architecture is similar to a Thai pagoda, covered in gold

Accommodation Plan: Sibayak Hotel

  • IN MORNING CLIMB TO SIBAYAK VOLCANO, AN ACTIVE VOLCANO 2,172M asl.
  • You can start from Semangat Gunung village, about 15 Km from Berastagi. It is estimated that hiking to the top takes 2 or 3 hours.
  • Trekking down via other trails through jungles, ending at hot springs. Rest at hot springs in midday.
  • In the afternoon drive to Parapat and cross Lake Toba by public ferry boat to Samosir Island.
  • Overnight in Samosir Island

Accommodation Plan: Tabo Cottage

  • Breakfast at Tabo Cottage.
  • Samosir Island tour by car. First, we visit Ambarita, the villages where you can see the ancient megalithic structures, among them the so-called "table cannibal." The village was an important meeting place for Sialagana King, who, as king, rescued her and restored order in all the villages, and villages Simanindo, which ends at the North end of the island and is known as one of the best villages with traditional houses of Batak Toba. The village is a museum Sidauruk King, there is a chance to see a traditional dance performance.
  • Visiting souvenir shops. Then check one of the most famous landmarks - the tomb of King Sidabutar, sarcophagus which is more than 200 years.
  • In the afternoon, we drive back to the hotel.

  • You will be transferred from Parapat to Samosir by a public ferry.  This transfer based on SIC.
  • From Parapat Harbour drive to Medan. On the way, you will pass the winding road with the view of Samosir Lake.
  • Various stops can be made before entering the hustle and bustle city of Medan.

  • Drive to Medan airport to catch your flight to Padang, West Sumatra.
  • Upon arrival at Minangkabau Airport of Padang, you will be pick up by our local staff and directly transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free on your own leisure

  • Morning transfer about 06:00 - 06:15  to Muara Harbor.
  • Boarding the Mentawai Fast Boat at 07:00 AM, sailing to Muara Siberut. Breakfast box provided.
  • Arrival at Muara Siberut after about 03 Hours 15 minutes (direct fast boating) but if the fast boat transit in Sakabulian, it takes 4 hours plus 1 hour waiting for loading more passengers, before continuing about 2 hours to Muara Siberut. depend on the waves and other sea circumstances.
  • Upon arrival in Muara Siberut,  transfer by a Public Non AC car to have lunch at a local house near the harbor.  Bring your day pack and valuable things with you.
  • While having lunch at the local house,  our local team making a report to the police station.
  • After lunch,  walk to the harbor about 5 minutes for boating by a small motorized wooden boat about  2 hours to get the Mentawai land. The journey could be longer or shorter depending on the depth of water as well as the current in the river.
  • Upon arrival at the Mentawai Village,  walking to the Uma Mentawai traditional house passing the muddy, slippery single logs, sago tree plantation, jungle trek.
  • Upon arrival at Local House, set our bedding while preparing the dinner at Local house.
  • Stay overnight at local house
