Baliem Valley Tour Package itinerary is more comfortable than Baliem Trekking, since in the tour program, after trekking you will back to the hotel in Wamena. But in the trekking program, you stay at a local house.
During the Baliem Valley tour, besides trekking along the Baliem Valley river, you will see War Dance Performance and Pig Feast/ These 2 attractions allow you to have an insight view of the prehistoric age culture. In the past, any kind of problem can erupt into a big war between tribes. It can be women, land possession, pig, etc. A war usually ends temporarily until one party gets loose.
Today they will show us what the tribal war looks like. All adult men will come to the battlefield with their body ornaments. Spears, arrows, and bone knives are taken by them. After the war ended, they will kill a pig and cooked together. Another interesting attraction of the Dani tribe. They cook the pork together with some sweet potatoes, grass, and vegetables on the hot stones. Almost no ingredients were added. This cooking can take about 3 hours or so.
*Anyway, to get a more affordable price for the Baliem valley tour package we could eliminate this war dance & pig feast attraction from the itinerary.
Morning flight from Jayapura by Trigana Air IL-273 at 10.20. Upon arrival at 10.50 in Wamena airport, meet our guide then proceed to visiting Napua hill & Sinatma village, drive down to the town for having lunch (personal expenses). continue to Wesaput village to see the hanging bridge, local market and surrounding. Finally transfer to hotel in Wamena for overnight.
After breakfast transfer by car within 35 minutes – 1 hour to Sogokmo in the South of Baliem valley. Then start to have a day trek to explore some small villages of Kurima district for about 4-5 hours to Wesaput passing thru Dani sweet potatoes gardens and crossing the hanging bridge over Baliem river. Along the trail, you will see the local people's activities and enjoy the beautiful scenery as well. A lunch box will be provided en route. Dinner on personal expenses and overnight stay at a hotel in Wamena.
Breakfast at the hotel, then we proceed to Obia Village (not too far from Jiwika). This village is one of the Dani villages which still preserved their old way of life, penis gourd, grass skirt, and round shape house (honai). Here, we will hold a pig feast and a war dance. After the attraction, you will proceed to Anemoigi and Sumpaima villages, about 10 minute ride from Obia, where we will see a 250-year-old mummy at one of the old houses here. Lunch box provided. Also, we will visit the natural cave at Wosilimo village. Stay overnight at Baliem Pilamo Hotel.
Alternative Program with War Dance, But NO PIG FEAST
From the car stop at Obia Village, we walk a few minutes to the entrance of the village, where will enjoy the Dani Mock battle. This attraction shows people what the past tribal war looks like, and how it ended. It involved 2 sides / 2 villages, each of the village civilians will come to the battleground with full body ornaments, as well as spears, arrows, and bone knives.
War is a method used by this tribe as a last resort in any disputes with other tribes. In fact, this war will be considered finished and fair if the number of victims killed on both sides is equal. In a real war, if the number of victims died is different, then the losing side will slaughter the pig with the same amount as the difference between the victims on their side. The slaughter of this pig is a symbol that they will seek revenge in the future, with the same number of the difference of victims on their side.

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to Wamena airport for your flight back to Jayapura by Trigana Air IL272 at 09.10. Arrival at the airport of Jayapura at 09.40. You may have a full-day sightseeing tour to visit: Sentani lake. Lunch at a local restaurant (personal expenses). After lunch, continued to visit the Anthropology museum, Hamadi market, and Jayapura city. Afternoon check-in to the Aston Jayapura hotel.
After breakfast, transfer to airport for your flight to your flight to next destination
